Romania-Ireland direct air connection

Romania-Ireland direct air connection

Romania – Ireland Chamber of Commerce is happy to let you know that Aer Lingus has announced the introduction of new European routes to its winter schedule and the recommencement of two former routes.

The new services - from Dublin to Helsinki, Bucharest, Agadir and Funchal - will begin in October.

The airline will also recommence services from Dublin to Copenhagen and Cork to Munich and will add 25 new flights a week from Dublin and Cork on existing routes.

Routes from Dublin to Vilnius and Cork to Manchester that were introduced for this summer have been extended to the winter schedule.

Additional capacity will also be added on 14 existing European routes from Dublin and Cork.

Flight Starting Days Fares from
Helsinki 30 Oct TUES/THURS/SAT 55
Copenhagen 28 Oct DAILY 19
Bucharest 30 Oct TUES/SAT 55
Funchal 30 Oct TUES/SAT 55
Agadir 03 Nov SAT 55

„I welcome it wholeheartedly, since the lack of a direct air connection has been a hindrance to the promotion of bilateral economic relations between the two countries. It will also facilitate contacts between our two peoples. I wish Aer Lingus every success, which I am confident they will have, given the potential of the route,” said HE Mr. Padraic Cradock, Irish Ambassador and honorary president of Romania-Ireland Chamber of Commerce.

“This is great news for trade, investment and tourism between Ireland and Romania. A direct flight will make it easier for Irish companies to do business in Romania and vice versa.  We believe there’s tremendous potential for traffic between Dublin and Bucharest, and this is a commercially astute move by Aer Lingus – well done to them,” said David Butler, manager Hungary & Romania for Enterprise Ireland.

„To have Romania and Ireland directly connected is great news. Our Chamber noticed such a need and got implicated in solving the matter, so we are very happy to see that there will be a more comfortable and fast way to travel between these two countries.
All businesses benefit. Irish, both individuals and companies, are very interested and active on the Romanian real estate market, thus the direct flight makes it easier for them to do their business. Tourism also will see an increase. Romanians wish to visit Ireland's beauties and historical sites, while Irish can warm up on our seaside or enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery.
Recently Romania was called by Ziarul Financiar the European Tiger. We think that this direct and comfortable link, with a quality and friendly company, makes it easier to connect it to the Celtic Tiger. This way the bilateral relationships will strengthen even more. The advantages come not only from the business point of view, but also from the knowledge one. We have a lot to learn from Ireland, our bigger EU sister. This way business travels can be faster and less tiering, allowing more time to focus on the important issues,” said Eduard Uzunov, president of Romania-Ireland Chamber of Commerce.

“We welcome the announcement of Aer Lingus opening a direct flight from Dublin to Bucharest starting the autumn 2007. During the past few years, the levels of trade and investment between Ireland and Romania have been constantly increasing and the newly opened route will help sustain the economic relationship between the two countries and develop new ties between Romanian and Irish Companies,” states Emil Lupescu, economic secretary, Embassy of Romania to Ireland.

About Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus was founded by the Irish Government in April 1936 to provide air services to/from Ireland. The first flight, from Dublin to Bristol, took place on May 27th 1936. On October 2nd 2006, Aer Lingus entered a new phase in its history with the airline's floatation on the Irish and London Stock Exchanges, becoming a publicly quoted company and realising €400 million in equity for the airline's future growth.

Aer Lingus' low-cost, low fares model is centred on maintaining low unit cost, offering one way fares, maintaining effective fleet utilisation and developing the Aer Lingus brand. Consistent with this low-cost model, Aer Lingus primary distribution channel is its website www.aerlingus.com.
