During 14-19 of February Romania-Ireland Chamber of Commerce (CCRI) made a work visit in Galway and Dublin (Ireland).

At the invitation of Galway Chamber of Commerce, Euro Info Center and Romanian Embassy in Dublin, on February 15th, Mr. Eduard Uzunov, CCRI president, participated at the "Doing Business in Romania" seminar. On this occasion, at the Galway Chamber of Commerce headquarters, business opportunities in Romania as well as the economic scenery were presented.

The speaker were:
- Introduction by Mr. Michael Coyle, chief executive officer of Galway Chamber
- Welcome Address by H.E. Silvia Stancu Davidoiu, Ambassador of Romania to Ireland
- The Romanian Business Climate by Mrs. Olguta Marian, Director, Romanian Ministry for Economy and Trade
- Investment Opportunities in Romania by Mr. Howard Scaife, Managing Director, Aktirom Consult Ltd.
- Opportunities for Irish Business by Mr. Eduard Uzunov, President of Romania – Ireland Chamber of Commerce
- Conclusion by Mr. Emil Lupescu, Economic Secretary, Embassy of Romania to Ireland

HE Madam Ambassador Silvia Stancu Davidoiu, the Romanian ambassador to Ireland opened the talks by saluting the interest of the Irish business community in Romania and the presence in our country, appreciating that through the EU accession our country can become an important destination for Irish capital.

Her Excellency added that she will continue in the efforts to support bilateral relationship through the services offered by the economic department of the embassy and through the efforts of close cooperators such as CCRI.

"The interest shown by participating companies, among which AWP Engineering Ltd., GDSI, Hewlett Packard, White Young Green and others, mainly touched legislative and taxation domains as well as investment opportunities. Three of the most interesting were real estate, IT&C and bio-diesel," said Mr. Uzunov, CCRI president.

Mr. Howard Scaife, managing director of Aktirom Consult, underlined between Romania"s advantages the rich natural resources, the well trained labor force and the intense use of the English language. In regards to the Irish part he brought to attention the extended knowledge about European funding, the entrepreneurship experience and the entrance in Romania with various businesses since the "90s.

Regarding the ample image of Romanian economy, Mrs. Olguta Marian, manager within the Economy and Commerce Ministry, foreign trade department, answered some of the most pressing questions put by the Irish business people: conventions and accords.

In October 1999 the Avoidance of Double Taxation Convention was signed, while in April 2005, at Luxembourg, the EU accession accord for Romania and Bulgaria was signed. Now there are taking place negotiations for a bilateral promotion and investment protection accord.

The conclusions were drawn by Mr. Emil Lupescu, economic secretary within the Embassy of Romania to Ireland mentioned the need to strengthen the bilateral economic relationship in the light of permanent intensification of bilateral trade. Additionally he said that the Embassy will direct business inquiries to the proper partners.

"We are happy to encounter such an openness and support from HE Madam Ambassador Davidoiu and Mr. Lupescu. Our thanks for the open door to Galway and Dublin. We are certain that this outing, which generated the establishment of important business contacts, will turn into direct investments in Romania," said Mr. Uzunov.

In addition CCRI brought to the attention of Irish investors some of the most interesting real estate offers at The Sunday Business Post Dublin Property Expo 2007, which took place between 16-18 February.
The presence as sole Romanians at this fair offered a unique opportunity for the market to benefit of approximately 9,000 stand visitors.
